In North Dakota, during 2004, Adult Protective Services investigated 570 new cases of vulnerable adult maltreatment. Of these, nearly three-quarters involved adults 60 and older. About one in four of the alleged victims had some form of dementia. Self-neglect was the most common allegation (65%), followed by neglect (14%), abuse (10%), and financial exploitation (11%).
